..and the website.

I'm guilty of not participating very much over the last few years. Things changed after I lost the ability to host meetings among other things.

Anyway, the main point of this thread is this:

The domain name is about to expire in less than 60 days. I'm trying to decide if it's something that's worth renewing or just let it expire, but I would like to get everyone else input on the matter.

If we still have a fair amount of interest, I'll renew the domain for at least a year, maybe 3 if I can get a better deal. But I need some feedback. I know we are not using the site here much, but it's hosted on my brothers server, and the site itself isn't costing us anything.

I hate that it has come down to considering pulling the plug, but I can say that I'm surprised either. It has been tough keeping too much forward momentum going with the number of folks who have relocated or moved on from the platform. I don't know if it's going to pick up much with anything short of a membership drive on the various Amiga sites, but even at that, I think most folks have heard of the group or found the listing in the user group lists and there haven't been any new folks wandering in to ask to become members.

I wish I could offer some help running the site as far as trying to keep things updated, but I don't know any html and right now I've got too much on my plate to try to put a lot of time into learning any of it.

As much as I hate to say it, I think I would rather see the plug pulled and the site go away then to see it slowly dying from inactivity. That being said, if you've thought of possibly getting back into things, I'd be willing to help you drum up people and activity.

I guess that's a pretty mixed message for an answer, but it's the best I can explain my thoughts.

I would like to see it stay. Lots of connections here. What do you think about, just changing this to a NC/SC classic retro computer page? C64,Amiga ,Atari ST, Apple mac etc. Might bring a broader audience. Also I think a face book group could bring people here. I could make one If needed.

Well, I'm guilty of leaving the area..

I understand that there has been little traffic.. Over the period of a few years, these have been perhaps the leanest years of Amiga.

The optimist inside me wants to hope that things will get better, with the new A1X100 coming, but I really don't know how much of a change we can expect.

No matter what tomorrow brings, I'm grateful for what NCSCAUG has brought me so far. It was at my first meeting that I saw OS4 the first time, and I was "sold" in about 30 seconds.

And I've met a few people too. Smile

I don't have a vote, just a message of thanks.

Hi lumbee74,

Nice to meet you. Things have been a bit slow here recently, but we're always happy to have new folks stopping by. How are things progressing with the new machines?

Yeah, welcome Lumbee74. Hopefully there will be another meeting sometime in the near future.

As far as the top goes, I'm still looking at a couple of options. It seems like maybe we want the site to stay, but get a bit of a face lift. We could do a Facebook page, that's a good idea since we've all started to connect there. Also a Twitter link could be established, although I'll admit I'm not real up to speed with Twitter.

Things are pretty well with new machines, but have to put a hold on buying til october. I am currently staying in a house that is too small for me and my family. Lease ends in oct and looking for bigger house. I still haven't gone through all the disk for the amiga yet. There are alot of disk I'll never use. They are for video editing and drawing and stuff like that. Not what i am into right now, jiust enjoy palying retro games. I have been keeping up with amiga developments. interested in aros/imica systems also.

Glad to hear that you're progressing with the new Amiga. I ended up digging Amiga Forever back out to mess around with again in addition to the SAM.

I'm not sure if we currently have anyone working with AROS or an IMICA system, but if/when we have another meeting 4.1 will be there. If you get something up and running with AROS you'd be more than welcome to do a demonstration if you'd like. I haven't worked with it, but I'm always interested to see new things.

I will support whichever decision is made. Just for stating an opinion, I hope to see the site stay. However, if we need to move on to a site like facebook, I understand.

Just for the record, I recently picked up the newest Amiga Forever package (download version). Amazing how well this program has matured.

What are some of the differences between this version and the earlier ones? Are there more games included?

The program loads a "player" that will directly play any of the included games or demos without having to go into workbench. There are dozens of included games and demos. It also is used to load various workbench enviroments of your choosing. The software also includes an updater that handles WinUAE or Amiga Forever package updates much like Apple's or Microsoft's updater.

A former member of the group who moved away worked with Mac on Amiga and gave a demonstration of it at a meeting if I recall correctly. Not sure if you're interested in it since you've already got a Mac, but if you are try searching some of the older posts in the forum to see if there's some info in there.
